THE 36 BREATHS

The simplest and most important SELF-HELP tool we have is our BREATH. The EXHALE and the INHALE. When we exhale slowly, consciously, and deeply we release tension and stress. When we inhale slowly, consciously, and deeply we receive an abundance of life energy. This life energy connects our body, mind, and spirit.

Each day EXHALE and INHALE 36 conscious, slow, deep, even, breaths. You can do this all at once or you can do 9 complete exhales and inhales four times per day. I like to do the 36 Breaths while holding my fingers (holding each finger for 3 breaths, one at a time on one hand, holding each finger for 3 breaths, one at a time on the other hand. Then 3 breaths holding the palm and 3 breaths holding the other palm for a total of 36 Breaths).

THE HANDS

In Jin Shin Jyutsu, the hands (fingers and palms) are another very simple and powerful self-help tool. All you have to do is hold a finger and BREATHE. This will release tension and stress. With the right hand hold the fingers of the left hand one at a time and BREATHE until you feel a pulse. With the left hand hold the fingers of the right hand one at a time and BREATHE until you feel a pulse. Then hold the right palm with the left hand and BREATHE until you feel a pulse. Switch sides and hold the left palm with the right hand and BREATHE until you feel a pulse.

THE MAIN CENTRAL VERTICAL FLOW

The Main Central Vertical Flow is the source of our life energy. For optimum results, do this daily.



MAIN CENTRAL VERTICAL FLOW

Step 1:
Place the fingers of the right hand on the top of the head (where they will remain until step 8). Place the fingers of the left hand on your forehead between your eyebrows. BREATHE and hold this position for 2 minutes or until the pulses you feel at your fingertips synchronize with each other.

Step 2:
Now move the left fingertips to the tip of the nose. BREATHE and hold this position for 2 minutes, or until the pulses synchronize.

Step 3: Move the left fingertips to the V of the neck (base of the throat). BREATHE. Stay there for 2 minutes or until the pulses synchronize.

Step 4: Move the left fingertips to your sternum (center of your chest between your breasts). BREATHE. Stay there for 2 minutes or until the pulses synchronize.

Step 5: Move the left fingertips to the base of your sternum (center of where your ribs start, above the stomach).  BREATHE. Hold them there for 2 minutes, or until the pulses synchronize.

Step 6: Move your left fingers to one inch above the umbilicus (belly button). BREATHE. Stay there for 2 minutes, or until the pulses synchronize.

Step 7: Move your left fingers to the top of your pubic bone (above the genitals, center). BREATHE. Stay there for 2 minutes, or until the pulses synchronize.

Step 8: Keep your left fingertips in place and move your right fingertips to cover your coccyx (tailbone). BREATHE.  Hold for 2 minutes or until the pulses you feel at your fingertips synchronize with each other.

Note: The right hand remains on the top of the head while the left hand moves down the body until the final step.
